Use: Type in chords to see the pervasively fluent passages that obtain between pairs of chords within the entire progression.
- This applet provides a means of exploring harmonic prolongations in any piece of tonal music.

- For more information on prolongational analysis, see Introduction to Schenkerian Analysis.
- Before using the applet, the music intended for prolongational analysis must be organized into a diatonic lattice, as shown below. For information on how to construct a diatonic lattice, see Prolongation and the Diatonic Lattice.
- To find PFPs, enter all chords, separated by commas (,) or semicolons (;). For each, type in the constituent pitch classes as they appear on the lattice, with spaces or hyphens marking empty lattice loci. Type A, a, T, or t for 10; type B, b, E, e, L, or l (lowercase L) for 11. Do not type double-digit values. Sample entry (CM: I IV ii7 V7 I): 0-4-7,0--5-9,02-5-9,-2-57-L,0-4-7
- Alternatively, you can enter the lattice itself as text. End the lines of text representing each diatonic step with a carriage return (newline). Precede each pitch class number with two hyphens (--). Use the 'pipe' character ( | ) for empty lattice loci preceded by two spaces ( ). Use A, a, T, or t for 10, and B, b, E, e, L, or l (lowercase L) for 11. Sample entry (CM: I IV ii7 V7 I):
